A*L*O*T GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
President Bill Stone welcomed the members. He gave a brief history of the ALOT Association, introduced Learon Roberts as a founding member of ALOT and Beth Wicker as our sale secretary.[ Back to Index ]Learon Roberts, presented the Treasurer’s Report. Our Association is financially sound. Because we use volunteers, ALOT has been able to keep sale costs to about 8% for the last three sales. This means the consignor takes home more money. Directors from Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma are looking into advertising our sales in those states.
There was discussion about trying to keep the number of cattle offered in a sale down to about 75 lots. The sale secretary received papers on 117 lots of cattle for the October female sale. The sale committee worked with consignors and got the figure down to 95 lots. There was a general agreement that we need to look into having sales in some other states. Members from Louisiana and Oklahoma are looking into sale facilities and costs in those states.
There was also discussion about setting standards for accepting cattle into the ALOT sale. Gerald Franklin is to look into establishing some graduated standards for future sales.
The ALOT website was discussed. We have a terrific website maintained by Dodie O’Bryan. Several members have sold cattle through contacts from the website. In addition to doing such a good job running the site, Dodie has also been paying for the website for several years. Gerald made a motion that ALOT should pay for the website. The motion carried by acclamation.
