A*L*O*T Board of Directors Meets in Paris
The A*L*O*T Board of Directors met in Paris, Texas on March 8, 2003. Members present were: Ernest Shelton, Bill Stone, Learon Roberts, James Brown and Darrin Marical.[ Back to Index ]The Board accepted with regret Gary Smith’s resignation as director from Texas. Gary and Sharon are from Itasca, Texas and run Hilltop Angus Ranch. Gary has been on the Board of Directors since the board was established with Sharon right behind him all the way. They have really served as a team, serving tirelessly and contributing so much to making A*L*O*T what it is today. They not only helped A*L*O*T grow as an Angus organization, but contributed time, effort and cattle. Gary was always on hand to promote the Angus breed and membership as well as working the sales. Sharon helped wherever she was needed most: in the office, in the “kitchen”, or on the sale block on sale day. They both will be missed!
Darrin Marical suggested that the Association should accept credit cards at sales. The cost to the Association will be less than 2%. The buyer will be charged 1% and the balance will be charged to sale expense. The Board voted to accept credit cards for the three sales to be held in 2003. Then they will re-evaluate the value of the program and decide whether to continue it in the future. Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express cards will be accepted.
The Board voted to allow about five good herd bulls in our cow sale, starting with the Spring 2004 sale. The bulls would need to have exceptional EPDs to be put into the cow sales. The owners of the bulls would be responsible for any special advertising for their bulls.
The lunches served at our sales were discussed. Some have said the meal needs to be hotter. We will look into improving lunch. We may need to pick the food up later or get someone to do the cooking on the grounds. Learon Roberts will explore our options and report back to the Board.
The Board discussed moving the sale to another location. The rent paid for using the facility is supposed to include cleaning, but the facility usually requires some cleaning when the A*L*O*T crew goes in to set up for the sales. Some Directors mentioned other locations and will check into those. Learon Roberts will talk to the people who manage the facility and see if things can be improved. This will be discussed again at the next meeting.
The Board voted to donate $100 to the carcass contest in Pontotoc County, Oklahoma. All the Board members will be thinking of ways to improve our sales. New ideas will be discussed at the next meeting.

[ Back to Index ]The A*L*O*T Angus Association will hold its annual Spring Female Sale on Saturday, May 10, 2003 at the Titus County Fair Sale Facility in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. Sale Secretary Beth Wicker reports that a total of 83 lots will be cataloged.
The Spring Female Sale is always well attended and the sale offering strong. We have no reason to believe that this year’s sale will be any different.
A strong corps of volunteer help is lined up again this year so that our customers receive top-notch service at reduced cost to the consignors.
Be sure to make plans to attend the sale and pass the word to any friends and neighbors who have not attended in the past. Stress to them that there will be plenty of quality Angus seedstock and a good meal as well.
Consignors should remember that all consignments are to be accompanied by current pregnancy status, determined by a practicing vet, and a health certificate for interstate shipment. The sale staff asks that all consigned animals be in place at the sale facility by 2PM on Friday, May 9th.
The A*L*O*T Angus Association would like to take this opportunity or welcome and introduce our new board members for this year.[ Back to Index ]During the October General Membership meeting the association elected Darrin Marical from Tecumseh, OK as the director replacing outgoing Oklahoma director Martin Van Meter. Darrin and his wife Tanya operate TDM Enterprises in Tecumseh, OK.
Also elected at the October meeting was Allen Garner from Arkadelphia, AR as a second director from Arkansas. Allen and his wife Kim operate Garner Land & Cattle in Arkadelphia, AR.
The A*L*O*T Angus Association Board of Directors appointed Bo Rogers of Simms, TX to fill the vacancy of Texas Director upon accepting the resignation of Gary Smith. Bo and wife Lisa, his brother Kelley, and their father Wesley Rogers operate Rogers Brother Angus in Simms, Texas.
All of these men have been strong supporters of A*L*O*T Angus Association for several years, and we are looking forward to working with them on the board as well as working with the entire membership in promoting the Angus breed in 2003!
